Physical Education
This major is available through the Troy Campus only.
AREA I-V Recommendations
AREA I:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø.
"D" grades will not transfer.
AREA II:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence
in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA III:
A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen. "D" grades will not
transfer.
Students attending 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø are required to take a general studies science
course in Biology. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged
to take BIO 103(Principles of Biology I) to meet this requirement.
Students attending 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø are also required to take a general studies science
course/lab in Chemistry, Earth Science, Physical Science, or Physics. Students attending
a community college are strongly encouraged to take CHM 111(College Chemistry I), PHS 111(Physical Science I), PHS 112(Physical Science II), or PHY 201(General Physics I) to meet this requirement.
AREA IV:
When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence
in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.
AREA V:
SPECIAL NOTE: Community college students are strongly encouraged NOT to take BIO 201 at the community college. It is recommended that the student wait and take a specific Physiological Principles of Body Systems course at 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø. If taken at the community college, both BIO 201 AND BIO 202 will be required to meet the requirements of this course.
The remaining 14 SH in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 14 SH from the following:
- HED 230 or 231 (Safety & First Aid or First Aid)(3 SH)
- ORI 101 (Orientation to College)(1 SH)
- CIS 146 (Microcomputer Applications)(3 SH)
- HED 232 (Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries)(3 SH)
- PED 200 (Foundations of Physical Education)(3 SH)
- 1 Physical Activity Course (1 SH)
51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø Baccalaureate Degrees
The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:
- A minimum of 120 SH
- At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit.
- No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based credit.
- At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø.
- Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence
at 51ºÚÁÏÆØ¹â³Ô¹ÏÍø.
